You are your brand.

We ALL struggle with ourselves. Call it an identity crisis if you may. Let's face it, you are not the same person you were 10 years ago. You're not the same person you were 3 years ago. Hell, you're not the same person you were yesterday. That's the beauty of life, we can adapt and alter ourselves and that my friends, is what we call growth. The decisions you made in the past got you to where you are now, and from my experience, some decisions I made, yielded wretched outcomes. But, it made me realize that if I didn't walk the paths that I did, I wouldn't be the person I am today. I wouldn't be my brand and my brand wouldn't be a reflection of myself. When creating your own startup, there are innumerable things you must contemplate. Sure, the underlying concept is to make some money, however, in some instances, quality is salutary as opposed to quantity. As a student, they'll teach you that higher quality comes with a cost. And they're right. I've had occurrences where I've been told that my prices are too high. I also had testimonials stating that my prices are way too low for the quality of the commodity that I provide. That's the thing with operating your personal business, people will make you sell yourself short, but as long as you're confident in the quality that you produce, the prices you charge, and the after-sales services that you provide...you shouldn't worry too much. Because well, you're doing you!

There will ALWAYS be people in life who will grumble about it and that's okay. Constructive criticism should always be welcomed but there's a fine line between someone belittling you and constructive criticism. If you know that you're doing the best you can, you shouldn't feel dejected, but you should be open-minded and be teachable. That my friends are traits of an entrepreneur. You wouldn't find that in a textbook, you'll learn that from your own personal experience and I'm here to prepare you for it.

Growth stems from uncomfortable situations. It shapes you to be a better person and that's what you want your brand to reflect...the best of you. Provide quality products and quality services that YOU will want to indulge in. Even if your target audience has a particular budget, provide the best quality at that cost. As an entrepreneur, you may need to tweak your standards to adhere to your target audience and facilitate customer satisfaction, etc. While these tactics are crucial for business success, don't lose yourself in the process. Remember, you are your brand and it's okay to say "no" sometimes, it's okay to provide commodities that fit your capabilities. However, it is NOT okay to provide crappy service to your customers because well...YOU ARE YOUR BRAND and that's a reflection of you as a person.

The best advice I can possibly give anyone, regardless of your situation, whether you're a student, entrepreneur, teacher, mother...be teachable. There are so many things that you're oblivious about. Knowledge will unlock so many doorways for you. Not just academically, but it will give you new panoramas and perspectives to live by. Let it add value to you and your brand. Find a quote that best suits you and let it guide you. Hey, come up with your own quote and live by it...let your vision and mission statements not only give your business a sense of direction and purpose, create mission and vision statements for yourself. Remember, you are your brand!

  1. So true ! I believe everyone who is in a fairly new business or would like to go into business should read this. It is all about criticism and how we take it and try to better ourselves. People will always try to make you sell yourself short but it’s all about staying true to yourself and your brand . Never release something that you’re not comfortable with and you wouldn’t like to represent you

  5. Very enlightening. This is not only for persons who are now starting up a business but people in general. ARROGANCE VS IGNORANCE should be addressed...very well put together ...there's alot of takeaways from this and everyone should practice being "teachable"

Know.

Knowledge is power. Right?  Wrong.  "Knowledge is potential power. " - Tony Robbins  It's how you use your knowledge, implement your strategies, and execute your plans.  It's one thing to know of something, hear about something, and to read something. But there's a difference between knowing, hearing, reading, and understanding which will lead to the level of your execution. Your execution is essentially your game changer. Here in Trinidad, you'll hear "These young people have so much education but don't know how to do so and so." Well, that's true. You can have all the degrees in the world but none of it matters if you don't put things to use. In my very first blog post, I mentioned that I couldn't find a job, so I created employment for myself. It may be something minute to most of you but to me, that's everything. I'm proud of it and I'm proud of myself.  I want you to be proud of yourself as well. Knowledge is not sol...

A letter to the Zoom teachers...from a Zoom student.

There's a lot of traffic on social media concerning the requirements of the students for Zoom classes. Whilst it is understandable that the students must adhere to the requirements and meet the teachers halfway, this task is gravely difficult for most. It is a trying time and I sincerely thank the teachers for going out of their way, but here are some of things you may tend to overlook.  To my dearest teacher,  - Your student may not have a stable internet connection.  - Your student may not have a microphone to respond to your questions.  - Your student may not have an appropriate background to set up a camera.  - Your student may not be living in an area where the surroundings are quiet (I can attest to this, I literally live on a farm).  - Your student may not have a laptop of his/her own and cannot attend classes.  - Your student may not have the capacity and motivation to learn using a computer.  - Being focused, attentive and active is HARD....

Turn on the light.

Been MIA for a pretty long time and for that, I'd like to apologise.  This blog post does not provide any tips, tricks or traits of an entrepreneur, but rather my experience as a person.  For a long time, I've been unhappy, and satisfaction emanated from overworking myself. Keeping busy was my method of coping with whatever darkness was peering over my shoulder. For months all I did was cry. Cry and cry and cry and cry. My eyes were puffy, and I was always tired. Yet still, I had so much negative energy built up on the inside that it was consuming me. I put all my energy and focus into work and while the outcomes were phenomenal, I felt nothing. Zip. Nothing. It felt like a vortex in my chest and on the other side of it was just darkness. Dark, empty, and cold. It felt like I was drowning with every breath I took and I wasn't even under water. Some days I struggled to even get out of bed, most days I didn't even want to respond to messages and something simple as sendin...
