A letter to the Zoom teachers...from a Zoom student.

There's a lot of traffic on social media concerning the requirements of the students for Zoom classes. Whilst it is understandable that the students must adhere to the requirements and meet the teachers halfway, this task is gravely difficult for most. It is a trying time and I sincerely thank the teachers for going out of their way, but here are some of things you may tend to overlook.  To my dearest teacher,  - Your student may not have a stable internet connection.  - Your student may not have a microphone to respond to your questions.  - Your student may not have an appropriate background to set up a camera.  - Your student may not be living in an area where the surroundings are quiet (I can attest to this, I literally live on a farm).  - Your student may not have a laptop of his/her own and cannot attend classes.  - Your student may not have the capacity and motivation to learn using a computer.  - Being focused, attentive and active is HARD....

Turn on the light.

Been MIA for a pretty long time and for that, I'd like to apologise.  This blog post does not provide any tips, tricks or traits of an entrepreneur, but rather my experience as a person.  For a long time, I've been unhappy, and satisfaction emanated from overworking myself. Keeping busy was my method of coping with whatever darkness was peering over my shoulder. For months all I did was cry. Cry and cry and cry and cry. My eyes were puffy, and I was always tired. Yet still, I had so much negative energy built up on the inside that it was consuming me. I put all my energy and focus into work and while the outcomes were phenomenal, I felt nothing. Zip. Nothing. It felt like a vortex in my chest and on the other side of it was just darkness. Dark, empty, and cold. It felt like I was drowning with every breath I took and I wasn't even under water. Some days I struggled to even get out of bed, most days I didn't even want to respond to messages and something simple as sendin...

Know.

Knowledge is power. Right?  Wrong.  "Knowledge is potential power. " - Tony Robbins  It's how you use your knowledge, implement your strategies, and execute your plans.  It's one thing to know of something, hear about something, and to read something. But there's a difference between knowing, hearing, reading, and understanding which will lead to the level of your execution. Your execution is essentially your game changer. Here in Trinidad, you'll hear "These young people have so much education but don't know how to do so and so." Well, that's true. You can have all the degrees in the world but none of it matters if you don't put things to use. In my very first blog post, I mentioned that I couldn't find a job, so I created employment for myself. It may be something minute to most of you but to me, that's everything. I'm proud of it and I'm proud of myself.  I want you to be proud of yourself as well. Knowledge is not sol...

Network for your Networth.

“Networking is not about just connecting people. It’s about connecting people with people, people with ideas, and people with opportunities.”   ―  Michele Jennae So, networking huh? Obviously, I must share my experiences with you! I started my business with nothing but a laptop and my knowledge.  My business took off in the blink of an eye and here’s how, BY NETWORKING. Someone always knows someone who knows someone. A couple shares on people’s Instagram story, some amazing reviews and referrals and now I’m always overbooked. Networking truly made my business what it is today, and I am eternally grateful for every share, like and follow.    When you think of the word networking, you immediately think of talking to a group of people and that’s exactly what it is. However, the entrepreneurial trick is HOW you communicate with individuals. Whether it’s your client, your staff, yourself, be respectful, show some interest and compassion. If you’re rude or impoli...

SAVOUR THE BLAZER.

Of course we must discuss entrepreneurial fashion. I mean, what's a girl boss without her style?   I'm an amateur blogger with some big dreams and speaking of dreams, my fashion sense makes it seem as though my full time job is sleeping. I'm a sucker for comfort clothing; the whole leggings and sweater get up. I have a lot of cute clothes, but do I wear them? No. My go to is a sweatshirt, maybe if I feel spontaneous, I'll add some accessories or just wear a fancier sweatshirt. That's just me, but meet Arianna.  She's the founder of one of the very first cosmetic E-commerce businesses in Trinidad, Pristine Image Co. Funny enough, Arianna actually supplied my makeup back in the day when I started my collection. Like most of us, Arianna built her venture out of passion. Pristine Image Company aims to provide their amazing dolls with the best beauty products in the industry. As one of their dolls, I can attest to it. Her concept soon became popular and inspired some...

The Epitome Of Working From Home.

Based on our recent Q&A segment on Instagram, there were numerous questions centered around "Working from Ho me. "   Using your living space as your workspace is quite a trial. Talk about your work-life balance. Honestly, working from home is arduous. Not to mention to the background noise, the temptation from your television, the desire to work on your bed (this is a dangerous, dangerous game, do not do it). It is even harder when you are accustomed to going to an actual office. Being a young entrepreneur, my office is my bedroom. As humans, we can acclimatize to our surroundings, with a little incentive of course. Here's some tips for working from home.    •    Change your space. I cannot function in my room all day, sometimes I shuffle over to the living room, the dining table, sometimes I sit in my hammock and respond to emails. Changing my scenery now and then succors to my productivity. Everyone is different, some people have the ambition to ...

You are your brand.

We ALL struggle with ourselves. Call it an identity crisis if you may. Let's face it, you are not the same person you were 10 years ago. You're not the same person you were 3 years ago. Hell, you're not the same person you were yesterday. That's the beauty of life, we can adapt and alter ourselves and that my friends, is what we call growth. The decisions you made in the past got you to where you are now, and from my experience, some decisions I made, yielded wretched outcomes. But, it made me realize that if I didn't walk the paths that I did, I wouldn't be the person I am today. I wouldn't be my brand and my brand wouldn't be a reflection of myself. When creating your own startup, there are innumerable things you must contemplate. Sure, the underlying concept is to make some money, however, in some instances, quality is salutary as opposed to quantity. As a student, they'll teach you that higher quality comes with a cost. And they're right. I...

Welcome to the SHEblog.

SHEBlog- "For Women In Business." To me, the title always seemed a bit empowering but as I got older, I understood and grasped the concept of "Empowered Women Empower Women" and that's what SHEBlog is all about. This platform does not promote any form of discrimination towards genders but this is where I share my personal tips, tricks and tactics as a student, entrepreneur, a female and most importantly, a person.  Typically, websites and other blogs share the positive outcomes of one's efforts. SHEBlog intends to share the good, the bad and the ugly with you. “Fearlessness is not the absence of fear. It’s the mastery of fear. It’s about getting up one more time than we fall down.” — Arianna Huffington, editor in chief of The Huffington Post. Well, Arianna, I've been falling for a very very long time. Let's face it, job hunting is not only stressful, but it's also depressing. I've spent the past year looking for jobs. However...
